First of all, we would like to discuss circumcised penis. If you want your son to be circumcised, this procedure can be done in the hospital on two or three days after the birth process. However, if you want to push it to a week after the baby is discharged, then it wouldn’t be a problem. If you perform circumcised for religious based, then they usually do those two weeks after the birth. When the process of circumcised is done, you may see some light dressing like petroleum jelly with gauze that is placed all over the tip of penis. As the baby urinated, the dressing will fall naturally.
Some of the pediatricians may recommend you to keep the dressing clean and change it until the vital organ is fully healed, but if you don’t do that, some pediatricians said that it would be okay. What needs to be emphasized is how the penis should be kept in a clean state. It’s common to have the particles of stools get on the penis, so you need to wipe it softly with water and soap when you change the diaper.
The condition after circumcised is performed could be seen as the penis looks red for a few days. You may also find a yellow liquid comes from this. You don’t have to worry about these normal things, even you should feel relieved that both indicates the healing process is done. The red look and the liquid will disappear in a week. If after a week you still can see the redness and even a sore in yellow that contain unclear fluids, then infection may happen. Once you find this, you need to directly see the pediatricians.
Even after the penis is healed after the circumcised you still need to pay especially attention to this. In some cases a small piece of the foreskin is left, therefore, you need to pull back the organ as gently as possible as your bathing the baby. You need to be careful in the groove around the tips of penis. You need to make sure that you clean this part thoroughly.
If you like to perform the circumcised, not in early weeks or month of the baby, this probably for the medical reason, you need several weeks or month to be healed. The treatment is more or less same with the baby circumcised. It may need a general anesthesia and require a surgical procedure as the kid is getting older to make sure that no much bleeding as well as suturing the skin edges.
That’s all for the circumcised, now if you choose not to perform circumcised, you still need to take care your son’s penis. In the early weeks of living, you can just clean and wipe the uncircumcised penis using warm water and soap just like cleaning diaper area. The foreskin is initially connected to the tip of the penis, so you can’t force it to retraction. You don’t need the kind of antiseptics or cotton swabs in this stage, but you may put attention on how the baby urinates. You need to make sure that the hole of the foreskin is large enough to perform a common stream of urine. As you found something weird or your baby showing some discomfort, you need to see your pediatricians.
The normal process of retraction will be informed by a doctor as when the foreskin can be separated, and then it can perform the retraction in safe condition. This will not take too long, it probably on several weeks not month or even years. You need to know that you can’t force the retraction process because this will be so dangerous. You may cause severe bleeding and skin tears. If the retractions are done, you can retract the foreskin in some times and gently clean the tip of the penis and the underneath.
Then, as the boy is getting older, you need to train your son how to urinate and wash the penis. You also need to ask them to clean their foreskins by gently pull back the foreskin from the tip to back of penis. Then, they need to rinse their penis, as well as inside the crease of the foreskin with warm water and soap. After everything is done and clean, pull back the foreskin on the tip of penis.
